"Going to college has never been more important than it is today."
About Stephen
Stephen, who attends the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU), credits a study abroad program with helping him increase his independence. Stephen participated in a study abroad to Orvieto, Italy through the university. While in Italy, he also was able to visit Athens, Greece, Budapest, Hungary, Paris, France and Mallorca, Spain.
“Participating in the study abroad program was by far one of the most beneficial experiences of my life,” said Stephen. “To witness new terrains, natural wonders, and the history of human culture while adapting to diverse situations brought out an independent side as I sought the development of self.”
Both Stephen’s schooling and the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program, were made possible through a Pell Grant and a Dorrance Scholarship.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate, as I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree from ASU debt free,” said Stephen. “This is an opportunity not afforded to most, and I am most appreciative.”
Stephen recommends this year’s high school seniors prepare for college by investing their time in experiences both in and out of school.
“School is most important,” he says. “But learning to balance school work and a social life helps to create the most optimal and successful life for an incoming college freshman.”
