"Don’t let senioritis get in the way! It’s hard, but stay focused and stay motivated to finish high school strong."
About Kailey
Kailey is working toward achieving her dream of becoming a nurse.
She’s wanted to be a nurse since middle school, a dream that solidified as she cared for her ill mother before she passed away.
“One of the last pieces of advice my mom gave me was to follow my dream and be a nurse,” Kailey said. “It’s my passion. And the lifestyle will let me do everything else I want to do in my life.””
She initially began the path toward her goals by taking medical assistant (MA) classes in high school. She graduated from high school with her MA license.
“I’ve felt as though I was ahead of the game in my classes at Pima Community College because of the classes I took in high school,” said Kailey. “I already had a foundation of the material.”
In addition to helping her with her nursing prerequisite classes in college, Kailey is working as an MA at an urgent care center while she waits to be accepted into a nursing program.
Kailey recommends this year’s high school seniors begin applying for scholarships right away.
“Start applying for at least five scholarships every day,” she said. “It sounds daunting, but the more you apply, the more likely you are to get money for school.”
